5061 - Japanese Black and Gold Silk Haori

An exceptionally tasteful and well executed pair of embroidered silk panels, on salmon ground, with long and short satin stitch and seed stitch, primarily in shades of blue and beige, showing a rondel of large lotus blossom under a jeweled canopy, together with chrysanthemums and five bats and scrolls, with four corner motifs of lotus and scrolls. In China, the bat has few rivals as a symbol for good luck and happiness. The word for bat (fu) is identical in sound with the word for "good fortune" (fu). Often five bats are shown together to represent the Five Blessings - long life, riches, health, love of virtue and a natural death.19th century. Fine condition.

5068 - Pair of Chinese Embroidered Rank Badges

Fine quality, 19th century, civil sixth rank insignia badges, embroidered with egret, together with some of Eight Precious Things; the sun in one piece rendered in coral beads. Condition: the coral bead piece in fine condition; the other piece has loose threads and the tail has disintegrated.

5001 - Chinese Embroidered Robe

An exceptional example of a ceremonial or theatre robe, possibly for a secular dance at court, with motifs of dragon and phoenix, lotus, pine, bamboo, peach and bat, together with a multitude of other Buddhist and Daoist symbols, all executed in long and short satin stitch, very fine chain stitch, with Peking knot , and couched gilt metal thread. The robe dates from the 19th century and is in fine condition. Condition report, detailed photos and provenance information available.

5051 - CHINESE TWELVE SYMBOL DRAGON ROBE

A splendid apricot ground informal jifu, probably for an heir apparent; meets all the requirements for an imperial court robe of the late 18th/early 19th century: nine dragons, twelve symbols including sun, moon, constellation (enlightenment), mountain (protection), phoenix and dragon (adaptability and literary refinement), fu symbol (discrimination), ax (power to punish), two sacrificial cups (filial piety), water weed (purity), fire (brilliance), ring of millet (ability to feed) and a number of Daoist and Buddhist symbols.

5032 - Chinese Embroidery

Very handsome Chinese silk embroidery with extensive couched gold and seed stitch, in colors of pink, blue and beige, depicting six roundels with butterflies and peonies on floral couched gold ground, with woven beige ground silk border, embellished with keyfret design and a variety of symbols including the wheel of law, the conch shell, scrolls for painting, a fan and cash motif. 19th century. Fine condition.

5065 - Chinese Embroidered Silk Wedding Skirt

China Coast Couture offers a paneled red silk skirt, with detailed embroidery of peonies executed in long and short satin stitch and seed stitch. The skirt has been modified in that a waist band has been added to make a better fit.

5002 - Festive Chinese Miao Jacket

China Coast Couture presents a very finely silk thread embroidered on black cotton long jacket from Songjian. Several techniques were used including highly detailed seed and chain stitch, appliqued braid stitch and reverse applique. The jacket is with side closure. Fine condition. Approximately fifty years old.

5056 - CHINESE EMBROIDERED RANK BADGES

Fine pair of Chinese Mandarin squares of wild goose. Decoration includes some of Eight Buddhist Symbols, all above lishui stripes. Fine condition. Late 19th or early 20th century. Insignia badges were worn by Manchu civil and military officials on the front and back of their ceremonial garments with symbols that comprise the Twelve Ornaments. Approximately 12" square.

5054 - CHINESE GAUZE SILK LADY'S INFORMAL ROBE

The yellow ground silk gauze robe is woven with floral roundels. The collar and cuffs are decorated with woven and embroidered silk brocade borders, primarily in colors of blue, purple, green and pink. Embroidery of butterflies, orchids and chrysanthemums. The robe dates from the late 19th century. Robe is very clean and appears not to have been worn much. Condition termed fine with some water markings and a very small stain.

5058 - CHINESE DRAGON ROBE

19th century Chinese Manchu silk court robe for first concubine; embroidered with long and short satin stitch and couched gold thread; with nine dragons and Eight Auspicious Things, above lishui stripes and crested waves. Collar and cuffs replaced, stains, loose threads. Detailed photos upon request. Despite condition issues this is a very handsome robe.

5064 - UZBEK IKAT COAT

If you wish to make a fashion statement- wear this coat! With jeans or with silk pants, or a fur scarf !

Measurements: 44 inches long.

Condition is fine. The coat is stunning and probably fairly new. I would reline it with a purple or green silk.
