At the time of acquisition in 1968 the piece was said to have been in the fire when the Burmese conquered and burned Ayudhya in 1767. The bronze figure was acquired from a diplomate’s collection in 1968/1971 who had owned it for some twenty years, and was in turn acquired from a Thai prince whose family had owned the piece for some time.
