The China Coast, like a merchant in one of China’s Treaty Ports, serves a clientele drawn from many countries. In one form or another, the vision of Cathay has danced before our eyes since the Middle Ages. The opening of the Indian and Pacific Ocean to merchant vessels and the time of the Treaty Ports from 1842 to 1943 formed our perceptions of things Asian. The China Coast is a window on those now distant times and hopes to recapture the magical spirit and wild adventure of trading with the Orient. We try to find significant and whimsical pieces and unique treasures of fine art and folk art for the demanding client as well as the occasional shopper.
